64 Yogini temple - Hirapur

This 8th century gem is tucked away off the main road but not too far from Bhubaneswar. One of few temples with the 64 Yoginis who were worshipped as part of tantric practices, this one is fairly well preserved. Its hypaethral with the Yogini's standing atop their vahanaas and in niches on the inside of a circular wall. Many look like aliens. Ekapaad bhairav and female Ganesha attract attention. The main yogini's body is unfortunately kept covered with modern unfitting cloth. Outside, the center of the lake has the gaamdevata chaup's temple half submerged as is typical in the villages of the area.

Sisupalgarh excavations

Possibly the capital of Kalinga (Tosali?)from 3rd century BC, some basic excavations continue. Tall poles are seen in the distance. Unfortunately modern township is fast encroaching.

Brahmeswar temple (Panchayatan)

The 9th century main temple is flanked by 4 other smaller structures. Has some erotic and strange sculptures. Also has ekapaad bhairav (or is it nagna bhairav?). The tank behind the temple is clogged with green stuff, partly lotus. Like so many Orissan temples, has a well maintained garden.
