The 2005 PUSD Math field day was held at the John Muir
School. At 8 in the morning the teams of 4 gathered
possibly discussing strategies, and getting ready for the
5 multiple answer question sets they are supposed to solve
in the next 4 hours.
Typically there are two teams from each grade from most schools.
For the prize distribution, the auditorium was full.
So much, so that they asked people to leave. Failing that,
children from 4th grade and their parents had to leave after
their part of the function.
They gave prizes to all teams which secured a place in the
top 20% of each of the 5 papers (number sense, geometry, algebra,
statistics, and problem solving).
McKinley group in the crowd
McKinley B from 5th grade got a joint first with
another team from Don Benito. 2 children from each team now form a team
to compete at the county level on June 4.
Congrats to Mr. Rojas. Congrats to Jay Mahabal, Anton Dyudin, Marcos Cousineau and
Jordan Villalobos (+ David Guerra). Also congrats to the other McKinley team: Michael
Latour, Jarrod Suda, Hanan Worku, Sze Yin (Eunice) Ng (+ Katherine Bolten-Ford).
Jay and Anton will represent McKinley for PUSD on June 4 now (with the Don Benito representatives).
