Sequoia and King's Canyon National Park

(Take me to the slide show)
Sequoia Canyon is to John Muir what Yosemite is to Ansel Adams. In a way.
Both parks have their share of half domes, tall trees, beautiful landscapes, lush vegetation, and, especially towards the end of spring, terrefic waterfalls.

We visited there on May 25-6 2003, and here is a sampling of the photographs.

Gorman's fading wild flowers still look good

Route 245 on way to King's Canyon from Visalia

We recommend taking this way up rather than from inside Sequoia park. It is beautiful and it was full of wildflowers at this point of the year.

Zoomwalt Meadow

This is almost near Road's End in the Cedar Grove area of King's Canyon and worth a visit. For lack of time we could not do the entire trail. One can also go to the Roaring river waterfall from here by the trail.

The photos here include an American Robin, bark of a redwood, a burnt out redwood, and twigs in water (among others).

Roaring river waterfalls

Not the biggest waterfalls around, but pretty. Need to make some mosaics of the photographs here.

On the way back

Samplers as we drove towards Sequoia from King's. Dogwood flowers were spectacular.

Only pump in the area: from the '20's

Better fill up! Carry food before you enter the park too.

General Grant and Congress trail

Sequoia's are huge and their girth is immense. Its surprising that their roots are mostly in the top 3 feet of the earth! Some plants survive multiple fires. Methodically extinguishing all fires is what has damaged this ecosystem a great deal.

Crescent Meadow

Another lovely meadow, this one in Sequoia. One can walk from here towards the High Sierra as well as towards General Sherman tree (Congress trail). Photographs include: Anu trying on wings, steps in a fallen Sequoia, Thorp's log, triumph of life etc.

Moro rock

The high point of the trip. No pun intended. 400 steps to the 300 feet high rock are worth every breath. Auto log and the interesting fan like structure of the branches is seen.

Kaweah lake near three rivers

Its huge.
